Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Social Workers to join us in a full-time or part-time roles. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
The Social Work team will support both public and private patients across the co-located Mater Hospital Springfield and Mater Private Hospital Springfield, and will service a range of specialties such as medical/surgical, ICU, maternity, paediatrics, and emergency.
Salary range: $43.68 - $58.59 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Social Worker, you will provide patient-centred, evidence-based clinical care to patients across Mater Hospital Springfield. These roles will predominantly support patients across medical/surgical/ICU, and maternity/paediatrics. Rotations could be based on individual skillsets and particular areas of interest in either adult medical and/or maternity/paediatrics. Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Delivering routine social work services to achieve optimal patient outcomes, and applying clinical judgement to assess and support patients with more complex medical conditions, under clinical supervision as required
- Managing an appropriate caseload using strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and organisational policy
- Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and carers to facilitate holistic, patient-centred care
- Identifying, developing, and engaging in quality and service improvement initiatives to enhance clinical services and patient outcomes
- Providing direction to social work assistants and students
- Participating in continuing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical expertise
- Promoting the role and value of the social work service within the wider healthcare team
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Experience delivering social work services in an acute health setting (hospital experience desirable), supporting patients with complex medical and social issues
- Demonstrated clinical practice skills and sound clinical judgement in providing high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with patients and carers
- Ability or willingness to rapidly develop skills in quality and service improvement activities that enhance clinical outcomes
