Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for a Social Work Assistant (1.0FTE) to join us either in a full-time or part-time capacity (e.g. job share arrangement). Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

The Social Work Assistant will support the Social Work team with both public and private patients across the co-located Mater Hospital Springfield and Mater Private Hospital Springfield.

Salary range: $34.87 - $36.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a Social Work Assistant at Mater Springfield, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care across the Social Work team. Working under the delegation of qualified social workers, you’ll assist in providing practical, emotional, and administrative support to patients and families across a variety of clinical specialties and settings.  This role may be required to support other Allied Health disciplines depending on demand. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting in the delivery of delegated clinical and support tasks within defined care plans
  • Providing education, resources, and practical assistance to patients and their families
  • Helping patients access community and government support services
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and communicating changes in patient status
  • Setting up and maintaining clinical resources and equipment
  • Supporting social workers with administrative and coordination tasks
  • Contributing to service improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes

You will bring:

  • Experience working in a health setting (e.g. hospital, disability sector, or community care setting)
  • Ability to work independently within a defined scope of practice
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centred focus
  • Excellent organisation, prioritisation, and problem-solving abilities
  • Sound computer and digital literacy skills
