Mater Pharmacy is seeking applications for Pharmacists to join us in permanent full-time or part-time roles working predominantly at our new Springfield Pharmacy within Mater Hospital Springfield. These roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Mater Pharmacy will provide a clinical service to all inpatient areas and outpatient clinics, as well as serving the local community’s health needs so this represents a fantastic opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of this community and to contribute to a strong, unified, inter-professional Clinical Services team at Mater.
We welcome pharmacists with previous hospital experience and other Pharmacists looking for a chance to build clinical pharmacy skills and experience as on-the-job training will be provided to support your transition into hospital pharmacy.
Salary range: $39.86 - $58.59 per hour (HP3) plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will deliver high-quality pharmacy services that support the safe and effective use of medicines across Mater Health. You’ll work closely with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal medication outcomes, contribute to quality improvement, and support ongoing education within the pharmacy team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing accurate, evidence-based advice on the safe and effective use of medicines
- Supporting patient-centred care through medication reviews and education
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimise treatment outcomes
- Maintaining compliance with professional, legislative, and organisational standards
- Participating in quality improvement and service development activities
- Contributing to the education and supervision of students and support staff
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance practice and knowledge
This is a rotational position working across the pharmacy dispensary as well as various inpatient wards and clinical areas. The roles will be based primarily at Springfield, with some positions being rotational between Springfield and South Brisbane and/or Redland in order to meet operational needs. All roles will have the opportunity to also work at our tertiary referral and private hospitals at South Brisbane and/or Redland for training and development. You will also engage with and be supported by all other Mater Pharmacy teams including Inventory Management, Clinical Trials, Medicines Information, Community Services and the Production Unit.
Specific duties across the available roles will include but are not limited to:
- Compiling and documenting best possible medication history for hospital inpatients
- Reconciliation and clinical review of prescribed medications
- Managing supply of inpatient and discharge medications for hospital patients and outpatients
- Checking prepared medications prior to delivery to wards and/or supply to patients
- Preparation of discharge medication and discharge medication summaries
- Medication education and counselling for patients and their carers in inpatient hospital, ambulatory clinic and outpatient pharmacy settings
- Providing community pharmacy services
- Working withing a team of pharmacists, technicians and students providing supervision and assistance as required and contributing to improvement activities
- Liaison with external facilities and community health care providers to ensure continuity of care for individual patients
- Providing medication related information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
Our service to the hospitals is required 365 days per year so the role will include a share of evening, public holiday and weekend shifts as well as provision of an on-call service to all our facilities on a rostered basis.

You are a qualified and motivated pharmacist with a strong commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and patient-focused care. You combine professional knowledge with a collaborative mindset, working effectively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes for patients, carers, and colleagues. Your excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities ensure you contribute meaningfully to the delivery of pharmacy services across Mater Health.
To be considered for this role you must have:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy and current registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA (without restrictions)
- Sound knowledge of pharmacy practice, medication management and legislation
- Proven ability to provide accurate, evidence-based advice on medicine use
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support patients and teams
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities
- Commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and professional development
- Alignment with Mater’s Mission, Vision, and Values
- The flexibility to work a share of all shifts including evenings, weekends, public holidays and on-call on a rostered basis
Other highly desirable traits:
- Previous experience in hospital or clinical pharmacy
- ANZCAP recognition at any level in a relevant specialty area
- The ability to work at other Mater Pharmacy locations including South Brisbane and/or Redland
