About the role

Mater Speech Pathology is excited to offer a new opportunity for a Speech Pathology Cadet to join our dedicated team on a permanent full-time basis. This is more than just a role, it’s a chance to contribute meaningfully to patient care and be part of a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

Our team works with neonatal, paediatric and adult patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, and we’re expanding our services to support families and improve care outcomes in innovative ways.

Salary range: $34.02 - $35.68 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will work under the direction and supervision of Speech Pathologists to provide high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive care that respects all patients, families, and staff
  • Supporting clinical assessment and treatment tasks within your defined scope, under Allied Health professional supervision
  • Adjusting and implementing treatment programs using standardised tools, clinical pathways, and guidelines
  • Providing clear, supportive education to patients, families, and caregivers
  • Communicating effectively within the interprofessional team, including documentation, negotiation, and problem-solving
  • Liaising with other disciplines to support smooth, coordinated patient care
  • Participating in case conferences, handovers, and departmental meetings
  • Contributing to quality improvement and/or research activities within the service
  • Assisting with administrative duties such as data entry, referral processing, and resource management
  • Maintaining accurate, timely written records in line with Mater standards
  • Following Mater’s service quality, safety, and occupational health policies to support safe, high‑quality care
  • Engaging in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development to enhance skills and capability

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities, especially in multidisciplinary settings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Initiative, enthusiasm, and the ability to work independently
  • Previous experience as an Allied Health Assistant and a Certificate III/IV in Allied Health Assistance (highly regarded)
