Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Clinical Nursing Specialists – Deteriorating Patients to join us in a permanent, full-time and part-time roles. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing expert clinical leadership and afterhours support for high-risk deteriorating patients, including attending clinical codes as Nursing Code Team Leader.
  • Facilitating timely clinical transfers and reviews of ICU discharges and recent code patients.
  • Leading quality and safety initiatives, supporting staff education and continuous improvement in critical care practices.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and senior management to optimise patient safety and care delivery.

About you

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a critical care setting (ICU or Emergency Department).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care or Emergency Nursing (essential).
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Paediatric Life Support (PLS) certification
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical expertise in recognising and managing the deteriorating patient, including leading and coordinating clinical teams during emergency events.
  • Proven leadership capability with highly developed communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to mentoring and developing clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centred care, continuous professional development, and upholding Mater’s values and behavioural standards.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including night shifts and weekend day shifts.
