Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Patient Flow Manager (PFM) to join us in a permanent, full-time role. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

The Patient Flow Manager (PFM) is a Registered Nurse/Midwife who carries overall responsibility for the effective and efficient flow of patients ensuring the right patient is in the right place at the right time to maximise effective management of clinical, financial, and human resources within a quality and risk management framework.  The PFM may also act as the in hours Emergency Response Warden as directed.

Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

You will:

  • Anticipate and coordinate patient admissions and bed allocation to optimise patient safety, experience, and clinical outcomes.
  • Provide visible operational leadership, supporting teams to manage demand, capacity, and resource allocation effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with medical, nursing, midwifery, allied health, and external providers to ensure coordinated, seamless care delivery.
  • Proactively identify and escalate risks that may impact patient or staff safety.
  • Support and coordinate emergency response activities as required, including acting as in-hours Emergency Response Warden when directed.
  • Analyse patient flow and service data to inform decision-making and support performance against key measures.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, innovative models of care, and accreditation requirements.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, engagement, professional development, and continuous learning aligned with Mater’s values.
  • Support financial stewardship through responsible resource utilisation and contribution to budget management.

About you

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse or Midwife.
  • Minimum five years’ full-time clinical experience, including experience in a Clinical Nurse or other leadership role within a complex hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to provide clear, calm direction in high-pressure and rapidly changing situations.
  • Strong understanding of patient flow, bed management, and operational demands within acute healthcare settings.
  • Advanced interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to analyse data and use insights to inform clinical and operational decision-making.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and risk management within a governance framework.
  • Ability to balance clinical priorities with financial and resource considerations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development for self and others.
