Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Senior Administrative Officer – Interpreter Coordinator to join us at Language Services in this 0.5 FTE part-time position (Monday to Friday AM only). Based at our South Brisbane campus, this role will be part of a team in assisting in coordinating interpreters for a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour (MCAS Lvl 3) plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the Senior Administrative Officer – Interpreter Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring patients who are Deaf or have limited English proficiency receive equitable, high-quality care. You’ll coordinate daily interpreting services across Mater Health, supporting clinicians, patients, and interpreters to ensure smooth and efficient communication throughout the organisation.

Your role will combine service coordination, administrative excellence, and a strong commitment to patient experience.

  • Managing interpreter bookings and schedules through the Interpreter Management System (IMS)
  • Providing responsive and professional support to staff, patients, and interpreters
  • Monitoring, verifying, and processing interpreter service records and invoices
  • Ensuring interpreters are efficiently allocated to meet patient and clinical needs
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and data for reporting and service evaluation
  • Responding to enquiries and feedback with a high level of cultural sensitivity
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and service innovation

About you

You are a highly organised, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional service. With excellent communication skills and strong cultural awareness, you work effectively across diverse teams and are passionate about improving patient access and experience.

  • Proven administrative or coordination experience, ideally in a healthcare or service delivery setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused approach
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently under pressure
  • Sound computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems
  • Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and quality improvement
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset, aligned with Mater’s Mission, Vision, and Values
