About the role Mater Pharmacy have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians to join our Hospital Pharmacy team in both permanent and fixed-term positions working in either a full-time or part-time capacity.
We welcome those with previous hospital or community pharmacy experience as well as others with limited experience as on-the-job training will be provided to support your transition into hospital pharmacy.
Mater Health Services , South-East Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals caring for over 500,000 patients each year.

Salary range: $32.02-$36.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will work in a team with pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students and other support staff to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality of pharmacy service to optimise outcomes for all patients and customers of Mater.
What you’ll be doing as a Pharmacy Technician
As a Pharmacy Technician – Clinical/Hospital Services you will be responsible for delivering a consistently high level of pharmacy service to all clinical areas, which will include:
Dispensary duties:
Assembling and delivering dispensed medications
Cold chain management of refrigerated and frozen medications
Customer service and taking payments for discharging patients collecting medications
Assisting to monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels in the pharmacy
Answering phone calls from both internal and external customers and patients
Support pharmacy team with operational and administrative tasks
Providing responsive customer-focused service
Imprest Service:
Scheduled restocking of imprest medication to expected levels in a variety of clinical and procedural areas across all our hospitals on a rotational basis
Efficiently and accurately delivering medications required for patient care by receiving, picking, delivering and putting away stock in a timely and accurate manner
Management of expiry dates, stock rotation and product availability
Handling packages up to 12kg
Providing responsive customer-focused service
Training fellow team members in all aspects of the imprest role
Contributing to review of stock holding and schedules, checking expiry and auditing.
Other rotational roles in this team include:
PBS claim preparation and pharmacy billing
Dispensing for chemotherapy, assembling pre-meds, oral drugs and prescription management for Cancer Care areas
Dispensing, scheduled supply and prescription management for outpatient services including the Mater Infusion Centre and Hospital in the Home
This role is primarily based at South Brisbane with the opportunity to also work at Mater Springfield or Redland from time to time.
What you’ll be doing as a Production Assistant
As a Production Assistant you will be responsible for the timely manufacture and delivery of a diverse range of high quality, specialised sterile (including cytotoxic) and non-sterile pharmaceutical products compounded for Mater Health and other Queensland institutions, utilising our purpose-built on-site production facility. This will include:
Preparing and manufacturing sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products
Maintaining up to date knowledge of the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice and compliance with established policy and procedures for maintaining a safe, secure and efficient production service.
Maintaining required aseptic production competencies by successfully performing annual aseptic technique validation and completion of Chemo Check
Participating in quality assurance and quality improvement activities to ensure the highest standard of product quality for all clients
Performing other duties as directed by the Team Leader Production Services
Participating in the on-call roster to supply urgent medications on weekends and evenings when required
The Production unit is located at South Brisbane and provides a service to patients of Mater 24/7, 365 days of the year, so there is also the need for some weekend and on-call shifts.

About you
To be considered for this role you must have:

Professional, hardworking attitude and willing to work cooperatively and effectively with all team members
Completed or be willing to undertake relevant qualifications such as Certificate II or III in Hospital/Community Pharmacy (or equivalent)
Other highly desirable traits:
Previous relevant work experience
The flexibility to work additional shifts, including some weekends and public holidays
The ability to work at all Mater Hospital locations including South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield
