About the role
Catherine’s House Mother Baby Unit (CHMBU) is seeking an Intake Clinical Nurse Consultant to join the intake team. This permanent, full-time role will be based at the South Brisbane campus.
The Intake CNC will be part of the intake team and play a key leadership role in supporting intake processes for CHMBU and outpatient services.
CHMBU provides state-wide acute assessment and treatment for mothers with significant mental health conditions, co-admitted with their infants (under one year old). The inpatient unit includes 10 beds, with 2 designated as high-dependency. The outpatient services offer a variety of mental health interventions for mothers, the mother-infant dyad, and families, as well as community-based parenting programs.
Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will work closely with the Inpatient NUM, Psychiatry team, Team Leader, and the broader multidisciplinary team. This role will provide expert clinical consultancy and take a leadership role in promoting contemporary infant and perinatal mental health practices, particularly in triage and assessment. Additionally, the CNC will be actively involved in research, education, and continuous quality improvement.
- Conduct perinatal and infant mental health assessments, triage, and intake, to ensure coordinated care
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical practice for parent-baby dyads and families, incorporating both individual and group assessments and interventions within Catherine’s House model of care
- Maintain and enhance communication and relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including referrers and other mother-baby inpatient units
- Facilitate access to inpatient and outpatient mental health services, ensuring appropriate follow-up care, including post-discharge appointments
- Participate in multidisciplinary care meetings, including psychosocial meetings, family meetings, and care reviews
- Contribute to a network of referral options and support for consumers with perinatal and infant mental health concerns
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to contribute to the integration and evaluation of strategic direction, quality improvement, and research within Catherine’s House
- Lead and provide clinical supervision, debriefing, and mentorship to less experienced peers, ensuring evidence-based supervision practices
There is an expectation that the role may be required to work on projects, assist in other parts of the service and contribute to the broader governance activities of the service.
There will be a requirement to do some clinical work at times within the scope of practice of the successful candidates.
About you
- AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and a current annual practicing certificate
- Are an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) in Queensland or you have worked primarily in a mental health setting for at least two (2) years- thereby enabling you to apply for recognition as an AMHP after completion of relevant training
- The successful applicant has or is willing to work towards specialist mental health nursing and/or perinatal and infant mental health qualifications
Desirable
- Are a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse with the ACMHN or you are willing to work towards same
- Postgraduate qualification in mental health nursing
- Expertise in infant and / or perinatal mental health
- Experience in ambulatory / community / outpatient settings
