Work type: Permanent

About the role

Mater Health is looking for a proactive and commercially minded finance professional to make an impact in a values-driven organisation.

As a Finance Business Partner, you’ll be a strategic liaison between Finance and operational leaders - translating complex financials into clear, actionable insights that enhance operational & financial performance and long‑term sustainability. This is a hands-on and analytical role that would suit someone who enjoys partnering with non-financial stakeholders, delivering insights, and influencing strategic decision-making. You’ll build trusted relationships across clinical and corporate teams, coach clinical leaders on drivers of performance, and influence decisions that balance quality care with financial stewardship.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner within Mater Health, you’ll support a diverse portfolio within Mater Health, partnering closely with Executive Directors, Divisional Directors and cost‑centre leaders. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Salary range: $62.74 - $67.20 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

Partnering & Influence

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders, acting as a proactive trusted advisor to Executive Directors, Divisional Directors and cost‑centre leaders, framing issues, surfacing opportunities, and shaping decisions that lift financial, operational and clinical outcomes.
  • Participate in performance review and governance meetings, offering clear recommendations and narratives that drive accountability and action.

Performance Reporting & Analysis

  • Provide accurate, insightful monthly divisional performance reports and present the “so what” variance drivers, risks and opportunities, and practical interventions.
  • Support ledger integrity and month/year end close (journals, accruals, ledger reviews), ensuring information is timely, reliable and decision‑ready.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Responsible for the divisional budget cycle, maintain robust working papers, and deliver rolling forecasts, flagging variances to targets and advising on corrective actions.

Funding, Contracts & Grants

  • Maintain oversight of public, private, research and grant funding arrangements at a divisional level (e.g. service contracts, activity‑based funding) to ensure alignment with budget parameters and resource availability.
  • Review contracts and grant proposals for financial implications, risks, compliance and alignment with organisational objectives; collaborate with procurement and project leads to secure favourable terms.

Continuous Improvement & Change

  • Identify and implement system/process improvements that enhance reporting, forecasting and resource planning; champion change and build adoption across stakeholder groups.

Qualifications – Highly Desirable

  • Management Accounting or Finance Business Partner experience in a large healthcare or complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce and/or Business.

About you

  • Exceptional communicator: able to translate data into plain‑English insights and compelling narratives for non‑financial audiences; skilled in negotiation, consultation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Influential partner: comfortable challenging constructively, coaching leaders, and guiding trade‑offs to achieve sustainable outcomes.
  • Analytical and curious: strong critical thinking with a bias for evidence, pattern‑spotting and practical problem solving in complex operational environments.
  • Change positive: experienced in leading or supporting change initiatives; resilient, organised and effective at bringing people on the journey.
  • Team contributor: collaborative, supportive and committed to lifting capability within Finance and across the portfolio.

Application Process

Please submit your Resume and a tailored cover letter outlining your relevant experience and how you’ve influenced operational decision‑making through financial insight. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted regarding next steps and interview scheduling.
