About the role
Mater Private Hospital Townsville is seeking an experienced Food Services Assistant to join our onsite kitchen team. We are currently accepting applications from individuals who have the flexibility to work various shifts, spanning from 6:45AM to 8:30PM, seven days a week. Successful candidates will be offered Casual employment work at our Pimlico campus.
As a Food Services Assistant at Mater Private Hospital Townsville, you will support patient care by assisting with food preparation, meal tray delivery and collection and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. This role is essential in ensuring patients receive meals that meet their individual dietary and medical requirements, while following strict food safety and infection control standards. You will work as part of a supportive, fast‑paced team, delivering quality service to patients, staff, and visitors across the hospital.
Salary range: $32.02 - $34.52 per hour plus Casual Loading plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you'll be doing
As a Food Service Assistant you will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the day, including but not limited to:
- Prepare food and drinks in accordance with meal production requirements
- Delivery and clearance of meal trays, Strip, sort, sanitise and clean all trays, cutlery and utensils at the dishwashing area
- Pot and dish washing and kitchen cleaning, pantry cleaning records are completed daily
- Verify meal eligibility by comparing client information to food requirements
- Assemble tray supplies and food accurately on tray-lines
- Observe the Hospital’s Infection Control policies and procedures – Standard Additional Precautions, personal immunisation, and transmission of infection
- Ability to apply critical thinking, problem solving and effectively deal with complexity
About you
To be considered suitable for our Food Services Assistant position you will have:
- Food Handlers Certificate – or willing to obtain one
- Experience working in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or food services
- An understanding of Infection Control Guidelines and willingness to learn
- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of quality customer service
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team
