Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Ward Services Assistant to join us in a permanent, full and part-time roles. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $32.02 - $34.52 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In your role as Ward Services Assistant, you will provide essential support through safe patient transportation and non-clinical assistance to nursing and medical staff. Your work ensures smooth ward operations and enhances patient comfort and wellbeing.

  • Safely transport patients internally and externally, prioritising their comfort and dignity.
  • Assist nursing and medical staff with manual handling and patient mobility support.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in patient and communal areas, including proper waste disposal.
  • Restock supplies such as gowns, gloves, hand sanitiser, and blankets as needed.
  • Facilitate timely patient access to diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries to support care continuity.
  • Manage the movement and availability of medical equipment to optimise resource use.
  • Identify and promptly report safety hazards, equipment faults, and maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, infection control practices, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated patient care.

You are a compassionate and reliable team member dedicated to supporting patient care at Mater Hospital Springfield. With strong communication skills and physical stamina, you play a key role in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and dignified environment for patients.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills to support patients and staff.
  • Exhibit physical fitness and stamina to assist with patient mobility and manual handling.
  • Uphold hospital safety, infection control, and privacy standards at all times.
  • Show dependability by completing tasks efficiently and responding promptly to requests.
  • Maintain attention to detail and a patient-centred approach in all duties.
  • Work collaboratively within a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment.
