About the role
Mater Education is seeking an experienced and student‑centred Learning Support Advisor to join our dynamic Education and Training team at Mater’s South Brisbane Campus in a permanent full-time (38 hours per week) capacity.
Mater Education is a leader in clinical education and a nationally accredited, independent, hospital-based RTO, the only one of its kind in Queensland. Through clinical simulation programs, facilities, and expert faculty, we deliver contemporary, interprofessional workforce training across a wide range of sectors including health, aged care, residential care, and community services.
This is a varied and impactful role encompassing the design and delivery of workshops, academic language and learning support, curriculum development, peer program support, and targeted assistance for priority student groups. Operating with a high level of autonomy, professionalism and sound judgement, you will manage competing priorities while engaging with multiple stakeholders across Mater Education campuses. As part of a small team of specialist advisors, you will also contribute expertise across key areas including pathways and career planning, numeracy, language and literacy development, and additional learning needs.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Deliver timely, targeted and inclusive learning support services that enhance student capability, engagement and success across Mater Education programs.
Provide high‑quality coaching and learning support to students experiencing challenges with study skills, academic adjustment or learning progression.
Work collaboratively with Vocational Teachers to identify emerging student needs and implement appropriate learning interventions.
Develop, produce and maintain high‑quality learning support resources to be used by students and integrated into teaching practice.
Contribute feedback to curriculum planning processes and support continuous improvement of program materials and resources.
Design and facilitate both virtual and face‑to‑face workshops to build students’ academic, digital and employability skills.
Maintain accurate documentation, records and reporting to support monitoring of student progress and compliance with Mater Education policies.
Undertake operational tasks to support the effective delivery of learning support services, initiatives and student‑focused programs.
Actively participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to a collaborative, student‑centred, wellbeing‑focused team environment.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Qualifications
A degree in Education, Teaching or an equivalent.
Skills, knowledge and experience
Experience in learning support, academic language development, or similar roles in education.
Demonstrated capability in delivering learning support in both virtual and physical environments.
Strong understanding of adult learning principles, learner diversity and student success factors.
Experience in student engagement, curriculum planning, peer programs, retention strategies or industry‑based learning.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse learners, staff and stakeholders.
Highly developed communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using LMS/SMS platforms.
Experience working within an RTO environment (highly regarded).
Demonstrated commitment to quality systems, compliance and safe work practices.
Experience supporting student wellbeing in an educational setting.
Sound mathematical knowledge and ability to apply basic formulas.
