Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for an Assistant in Nursing to join our Central Sterile Services Department in a permanent part time role 32hrs per week. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, this state-of-the-art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Salary range: $35.92 - $36.97 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will support the theatre and CSSD team in activities that ensure the provision of a safe and efficient sterilising service. You will also participate in hospital quality management systems in the unit to ensure a continuous improvement focus. Your enthusiasm and skills will see you seamlessly integrate into this outstanding team, assisting to provide an exceptional level of care and to hit-the-ground-running.
Key Responsibilities
- Decontamination & Assembly: Manual and automated cleaning, inspection, and packing of surgical trays and specialised equipment’s.
- System Tracking: Accurate documentation and data entry using electronic tracking systems (T-Doc) to manage the instrument lifecycle.
- Sterilization: Operating autoclaves and monitoring sterilization cycles in line with Best Practice.
- Specialised Processing: Handling loan set processing and endoscope reprocessing (desirable).
- Quality & Safety: Engaging with Risk Management, Continuous Quality Improvement, and WHS systems.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Must hold or be currently enrolled in a Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (Mandatory).
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing for long periods, pushing heavy trolleys, and lifting instrument trays (up to 10kg).
- Proficiency in computer skills and experience navigating digital instrument tracking software.
- Proven knowledge in undertaking sterile services functions at an operational level within a hospital or large organization.
- An understanding of and commitment to the Mater Mission and Values, applying them practically within the department.
- Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and engage with service partners.
- Experience in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) issues and a commitment to Best Practice systems.
