About the role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM) to Manage our Private Postnatal Ward (M11/M12). This is a permanent, full-time position based on our South-Brisbane Campus.

Responsible for the clinical and operational management of our Private Postnatal Ward, the Midwifery Unit Manager takes overall responsibility for the health care environment and standard of patient care. The MUM performs as a clinical leader and manager with accountability for culture, quality and safety, patient flow, financial management, change management and the experience of women and families throughout their admission.

Salary range: $71.42 - $76.80 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing
As Midwifery Unit Manager, you will carry overall responsibility for the organisation, leadership and operational management of your clinical unit. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Clinical Services, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality maternity care.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring excellence in holistic, patient-centred maternity care

• Leading care coordination, communication and collaboration to optimise outcomes

• Monitoring and evaluating care effectiveness, initiating improvements where required

• Proactively identifying and escalating clinical risks to maintain a safe environment

• Contributing to strategic planning and service development

• Monitoring performance against agreed KPIs and preparing reports as required

• Maintaining compliance with national and state accreditation standards

• Overseeing workforce planning, rostering and performance management

• Contributing to annual budget and capital planning processes

• Coaching, mentoring and supporting succession planning

• Partnering with educators to oversee professional development programs

• Creating a collaborative, respectful workplace culture aligned to Mater’s behavioural standards

This is a pivotal leadership role where you will shape the culture, performance and future direction of our Private Postnatal Ward M11/M12. Balancing clinical excellence with operational acumen to deliver the best care for women, babies and families.

About you
You are an experienced and passionate Registered Midwife, with a strong clinical background and a proven track record in leadership within a complex hospital environment.

With a minimum of five years’ full-time experience working in postnatal care, including time spent as a Clinical Midwife or in another formal leadership role, you bring advanced clinical expertise, sound judgement and the confidence to lead from the front. You hold (or are working towards) a relevant tertiary qualification in specialty practice, health administration, management, clinical leadership or finance.
