About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Nurse Practitioner to join our team in a permanent, full-time role. Based at our Springfield campus, this position contributes to a significant milestone for Queensland healthcare as Mater Hospital Springfield progressively opens its clinical services in stages. Our state-of-the-art facility is purpose built to meet the needs of the rapidly growing Greater Springfield community. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical and surgical specialties, the hospital is designed to care for more than 200,000 patients each year.

As a key member of the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry service operating under a hub-and-spoke model from South Brisbane, the Nurse Practitioner at Mater Hospital Springfield provides advanced, timely assessment and management of psychiatric comorbidities within a general hospital environment. Working under the clinical governance of the Psychiatry team, the NP delivers expert mental health care, supports acute decision‑making, and enhances safe, coordinated responses to behavioural, psychological, and psychiatric presentations across the facility.

Salary range: $75.27 - $77.15 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

The Nurse Practitioner within the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service at Mater Hospital Springfield provides advanced, autonomous mental health care through expert clinical assessments, prescribing, diagnostics, and care planning. Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, the NP supports patients with psychiatric and emotional challenges, contributes to service development, delivers education, and fosters continuous quality improvement and research to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care.

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments including history, physical exams, and risk evaluations
  • Deliver expert care across inpatient, outpatient, maternity, emergency, and medical settings
  • Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostics within scope of practice
  • Make direct referrals and facilitate timely access to mental health services
  • Provide ongoing review and adjust care plans to optimise patient outcomes
  • Offer mental health consultation to medical, nursing, and allied health teams
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, care planning, and discharge coordination
  • Contribute to development and evaluation of clinical policies, protocols, and standards
  • Deliver education, coaching, and mentorship to staff to build capability and best practices
  • Engage in quality improvement, research, and service innovation initiatives

About you

Applicants must hold a Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent, current AHPRA Nurse Practitioner registration with a valid practising certificate and credentialing as a Mental Health Nurse through ACMHN or equivalent.

  • Minimum five years’ post-registration experience demonstrating advanced practice in infant, perinatal and adult mental health
  • Advanced expertise in infant, perinatal, and adult mental health assessment and intervention
  • Experience in Consultation–Liaison Psychiatry across diverse care settings
  • Background in clinical education, research translation, and team capacity building
  • Involvement in policy development, service improvement and clinical governance
  • Commitment to First Nations health equity and culturally safe practice
  • Ability to reduce barriers to care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
