Apply now Job no: 505769
Work type: Fixed Term
Location: Newstead

At Mater, our events do more than bring people together — they build connection, trust and impact across our communities. From flagship mass‑participation events to stakeholder and engagement experiences, our events play a critical role in how people experience Mater.

We’re looking for an Events and Engagement Manager to lead this diverse and high-impact portfolio on a maternity leave cover contract. Based at our Newstead offices and reporting to the Senior Marketing and Engagement Manager, this role sits within the Corporate Affairs and Growth team.

You’ll lead the strategy, planning and delivery of events across Mater Group - including our subsidiaries Mater Foundation, Mater Education and Mater Research - shaping experiences that are consumer‑centred, on brand and aligned to Mater’s strategic objectives.

This is your opportunity to lead some of Queensland’s most loved and meaningful events — including large‑scale community events, engagement activities and internal experiences — all while contributing to a mission that genuinely changes lives.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll combine strategic leadership with hands‑on delivery. You’ll:

  • Lead, develop, execute and evaluate Mater’s events and engagement portfolio to support organisational priorities and objectives.
  • Manage the delivery of high‑quality event services, ensuring exceptional consumer, patient and stakeholder experience across all events.
  • Drive new initiatives and continuous improvement to strengthen the effectiveness, consistency and impact of events and engagement activities.
  • Champion a consumer‑centric and patient‑focused approach across event design and delivery.
  • Manage events, projects and campaigns within agreed budgets, timeframes and key performance indicators.
  • Oversee event‑related risk and compliance requirements, including the development of risk management plans, terms and conditions, waivers, site evaluations and supplier contracts, in collaboration with Legal and Compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and facilitate sponsorship opportunities and ensure delivery of agreed sponsor benefits through event activations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and partners.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on event and engagement outcomes, including brand awareness, stakeholder engagement and budget performance, to drive continual improvement.
  • Work closely with Corporate Affairs and Growth team members to strengthen engagement channels, tools, processes and ways of working.
  • Lead, support, develop and motivate your team, as well as manage and supervise contracted staff as required.
  • Support the Senior Marketing and Engagement Manager in delivering strategic and operational objectives.
  • Work flexibly, including travel and out‑of‑hours work, to support successful event delivery.

About you

You’re a confident, organised and people‑focused events professional who thrives on leading teams and delivering experiences that matter. You’ll bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in event management, ideally including large‑scale or community events.
  • Qualifications in event management, marketing, communications or a related field — or equivalent experience.
  • A strong track record of leading end‑to‑end event delivery within budget, scope and timeframes.
  • Experience managing risk, compliance and supplier relationships in complex event environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse teams and partners.
  • Proven leadership capability, with experience developing and motivating teams and contractors.
  • Strong organisational, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, particularly in fast‑paced or high‑pressure environments.
  • Knowledge of contemporary event trends, including digital and hybrid delivery.
  • Flexibility, resilience and a calm approach when plans change (as they sometimes do!).

If you’re passionate about creating events with heart, purpose and impact — and ready to lead at the next level — you’ll feel right at home at Mater.
