About the role
Mater is seeking a friendly and reliable Food Service Assistant to join our Rockhampton team on a casual basis.
As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring our patients enjoy a safe, efficient, and high-quality meal service experience, contributing to the compassionate care Mater is known for. We are seeking a candidate with flexible Monday to Friday hours, available to work between 6am and 4pm.
Salary range: $32.02 - $34.52 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Food Service Assistant, you will be responsible for performing food services tasks, within the kitchen as directed by the Team Leader Operations including good receipting, food preparation, product stocking and rotating, food packaging, kitchen and equipment cleaning and disposal of kitchen waste. Additionally, you will contribute to maintaining equipment, and upholding health and safety protocols. Some of their duties are:
Clean, sanitise and assemble cooking equipment as required and complete cleaning tasks as directed by the Head Chef.
Perform cryovac packaging and sealing ensuring all trays are correctly packed and vacuum sealed as required.
Assist in the receipt of goods arriving at Mercy Food Services.
Stack food bank shelves ensuring all product is correctly stacked and rotated using the ‘First-In-First-Out’ system.
As required, assist prepare food products as per Food Safety Programme as directed including weighing and measuring daily production recipe ingredients in advance and placing all items onto production trolleys, advising Food Services Team Leader of any provisions not available for daily production.
About you
We are looking for a team-oriented, dependable individual with a passion for supporting patients through excellent service, who has:
Availability to work any day of the week. This does not mean you will work all 7 days, however the ideal candidate would be readily available on any day (occasionally at short notice), as this role supports shift coverage on a permanent rotating roster.
Completion of Food Safety & Hygiene Training.
Prior kitchen hand experience in a commercial kitchen is an advantage but not essential
An ability to achieve goals and objectives with minimal supervision.
Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
