About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a Nurse Unit Manager for our Mater Young Adult Health Centre (MYAHCB) and Acute Medical Unit (AMU). These two areas will be managed by the successful applicant. We will offer this role on a permanent full time basis 38 hours per week.
MYAHCB offers a specialised healthcare environment for patients predominately aged 16-25 and their families. With a focus on the primary condition as well as the associated impacts on adolescent social, emotional, and educational development, the service helps patients and their families through transition from paediatric healthcare services into care during the young adult period and subsequent transition to adult services.
The AMU ward provides early comprehensive assessment and ongoing care for acute patients under the care of an inpatient medical team, including sub-specialty areas of Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Endocrinology, Plastics, Neurology and Dermatology.
Salary range: $73.56 - $79.11 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As the leader of this team, you will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management, education, research and material accountabilities of nursing within the department. Additionally, in conjunction with the medical leadership of the service, you will ensure the provision of best practice, quality and safety aspects of patient care.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Caring for and leading a team of professionals
- Communication and coordination of patient care
- Engagement with stakeholders in other departments to ensure the highest quality patient care, that services are efficient, that patient safety is optimized, and to resolve barriers to patient flow.
- Team management, including performance management and compliance with Human Resources processes
- Delivery of work against relevant timeframes
About you
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- Previous experience in a nursing leadership position will be highly regarded
- Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- Experience and/or interest in working with young adults and an understanding of their healthcare needs
- Robust interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with young adults and their families
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and provide mentorship to develop your team
- High level of communication (written and verbal) and the ability to liaise with your team as an effective senior leader
- Experience working in the private sector or in mental health nursing will be highly desirable
- Understanding of cost centre management and budgetary restrictions/constraints
- You will have strong leadership ability and experience, excellent time management skills and the desire to promote the philosophy and values of the Sisters of Mercy and Mater Values to all staff
