About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a motivated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Orthopaedics and General Surgical Ward (8A) in a permanent part-time position, working 32 hours per week.
As a Registered Nurse on Ward 8A, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient-centred care within a dynamic surgical environment. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to clinical excellence, continuous improvement, and fostering positive professional relationships across the multidisciplinary team. Your ability to think critically, solve problems, and contribute to service improvement initiatives will support positive patient outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience.
Salary range: $42.99 - $55.14 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As part of our supportive and collaborative Orthopaedics and General Surgical team, you’ll deliver exceptional pre- and post-operative care, helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their recovery journey.

- Provide safe, high-quality nursing care across the patient journey
- Apply your clinical expertise to deliver outstanding patient outcomes
- Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional care
- Build positive relationships with patients and their families, ensuring a compassionate and supportive experience
- Maintain and develop your clinical knowledge through ongoing professional development

About you

Other skills and experience include:
- Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- At least 1 year experience in Orthopaedics or Surgical nursing
- Ability to work in an ever-changing and fast paced environment
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with all levels of the multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong listening, negotiation and decision-making skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Commitment to ensuring the levels of service is always delivered to patients at all times.
- Availability to work a 24/7 rotating roster including early, late, night and weekend shifts
