About the role

Catherine’s House is seeking an experienced and compassionate Clinical Nurse to join our team on a permanent full-time opportunity based at South Brisbane.

As a world-class Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service, Catherine’s House delivers integrated inpatient and outpatient care to public and private consumers, supporting mothers experiencing significant mental health challenges while promoting attachment, recovery and family wellbeing through a compassionate, evidence-based model of care.

Salary range: $57.48 - $61.55 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

Working within our 10-bed inpatient mother and baby unit, you’ll have the unique opportunity to provide specialist mental health nursing care that supports recovery while keeping mothers and babies together during treatment. Through compassionate, evidence-based practice, you’ll help women experiencing acute and complex perinatal mental health presentations build confidence in parenting, strengthen early connection and achieve meaningful recovery outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering contemporary, recovery-focused and evidence-based mental health nursing care
  • Completing comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment planning and care coordination
  • Supporting mothers and families experiencing acute and complex perinatal mental health presentations
  • Promoting positive parent–infant relationships and supporting parenting skill development by role modelling and participating in baby cares when necessary
  • Delivering therapeutic interventions and contributing to safe, least restrictive care approaches
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes for mothers and babies
  • Providing leadership, mentorship and clinical support to colleagues and less experienced clinicians
  • Contributing to service development, clinical quality initiatives and continuous improvement activities
  • Building strong therapeutic relationships with consumers, carers and families
  • Supporting implementation of best practice and maintaining excellence in clinical care

About you

You are a compassionate and experienced mental health clinician who values person-centred care and understands the importance of supporting both parent and infant wellbeing.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate
  • Recognition as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) in Queensland, or at least two years’ experience working primarily in mental health, enabling eligibility to obtain AMHP recognition following training
  • Experience delivering mental health nursing care within acute and/or complex mental health environments
  • Commitment to specialist practice in mental health and/or perinatal and infant mental health

Desirable:

  • Credentialed Mental Health Nurse status with ACMHN, or willingness to work towards this
  • Postgraduate qualifications in mental health nursing and/or perinatal and infant mental health

You’ll also bring:

  • Advanced mental health assessment, clinical decision-making and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Confidence using clinical information systems or the ability to rapidly acquire these skills
  • Strong communication and relationship-building capability
  • Passion for supporting clinical excellence and improving outcomes for mothers and infants
