About the role
Mater Private Hospital Mackay is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Maintenance Officer to join our Engineering and Maintenance Services team in a permanent full-time position (38 hours per week).
The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to work alongside the incumbent during a structured transition period, supporting the transfer of valuable site knowledge and ensuring continuity of essential engineering and maintenance services across the hospital.
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the safe, compliant and efficient operation of hospital infrastructure. Combining hands-on trade expertise with leadership and coordination responsibilities, you will support planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities while providing technical guidance to the wider maintenance team.
Salary range: $53.74 - $55.92 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this varied and rewarding role, you'll combine hands-on maintenance expertise with leadership and coordination responsibilities to support the delivery of high-quality maintenance services across the hospital.
You will:
- Perform general, building and trade-based maintenance tasks across the facility
- Support and coordinate daily maintenance operations and workflows
- Assist with prioritising and allocating maintenance requests and work orders
- Coordinate planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities
- Monitor building systems, equipment and facility assets to support operational reliability
- Liaise with contractors and service providers to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently
- Assist with maintenance planning and the effective use of maintenance management systems
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues and implement practical solutions
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, documentation and reporting
- Provide guidance and mentoring to maintenance team members
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance maintenance performance and service delivery
- Participate in an on-call roster as required
About you
You are a trade-qualified professional who enjoys balancing hands-on technical work with leadership and coordination responsibilities. Ideally, you will come from a carpentry or building maintenance background, bringing strong practical skills and the ability to support a diverse range of maintenance activities across a complex healthcare environment.
You will have:
- A trade qualification in carpentry or a related trade
- Demonstrated experience in a trade-based maintenance role
- Previous experience in a senior, leading hand or supervisory maintenance position
- Strong hands-on building and technical maintenance skills
- The ability to diagnose maintenance issues and implement practical solutions
- A solid understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working collaboratively with contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders
- A current driver's licence
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster
Highly regarded:
- Experience in a hospital, healthcare, commercial or facilities maintenance environment
- Experience using CMMS or asset management systems
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and contractor coordination
- Experience mentoring or supporting maintenance team members
