About the role
As an Intern Pharmacist, you will undertake a structured, supported training program designed to prepare you for registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
Working under the supervision of experienced pharmacists and educators, you will:
- Contribute to the delivery of clinical pharmacy services across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Support safe and effective medication management for a diverse patient population
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Develop the clinical knowledge, communication skills and professional judgement required for independent practice
You will gain experience in a broad range of clinical and operations areas, with exposure to:
- General medicine and surgery
- Emergency medicine
- Intensive care
- Neurosciences
- Cardiology
- Haematology and oncology
- Obstetrics and gynaecology
- Neonatal critical care
- Paediatrics and adolescent health
- Mental health services
- Medicines information
- Sterile production and compounding
- Community pharmacy
Salary range: $81,422.05 per year (HP3.0) per annum plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
Please note, as of 1 September 2026 the HP rates will be increasing and these can be found on our Enterprise Agreement
What you’ll be doing
- Develop clinical knowledge through structured learning, supervised practice and active participation in patient care
- Assist in the provision of medicines information, counselling and clinical support to patients and healthcare professionals
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and clinical discussions
- Contribute to quality improvement and medication safety initiatives
- Build effective working relationships within the pharmacy team and broader healthcare environment
- Rotate across multiple Mater sites, including South Brisbane, Springfield and Redland campuses to gain broad clinical experience in diverse healthcare settings
About You
The successful candidates must:
- Be completing a Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy in 2026 from a recognised tertiary institute
- Be eligible for general registration as a pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) after satisfactory completion of 48 weeks supervised practice
- Demonstrate the following:
- A professional and proactive attitude
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to details
- Effective organisation and time management skills
- Previous experience in hospital or community pharmacy will be highly regarded.
