About the role
Mater Mothers’ Hospita l is seeking exceptional Principal House Officers (PHOs) to join our Obstetrics & Gynaecology team in a 12-month maximum term, full-time opportunity commencing in 2027 , based in South Brisbane, with opportunities for exposure across both our South Brisbane and Springfield sites.
As Australia’s largest maternity service, Mater Mothers’ Hospital delivers more than 10,000 births each year and provides comprehensive general and specialist gynaecology services. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to further develop your clinical experience within a world-class tertiary maternity environment.
This opportunity is ideal for Medical Officers seeking to expand their experience in Women’s Health prior to progressing into Specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology training, General Practice, or Rural Generalist Obstetrics pathways.
You will gain supported exposure across the full scope of obstetrics and gynaecology while working alongside highly experienced multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative and education-focused environment.

What you’ll be doing
As a Principal House Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while developing your clinical skills across a broad range of Women’s Health services.
Your experience may include:
Birth Suite and labour ward
Antenatal Clinic
Early Pregnancy and Pregnancy Assessment Units
Caesarean sections
Obstetric Medicine
General Gynaecology clinics and theatre
Advanced Laparoscopy and Adolescent Gynaecology
Care and management of both high- and low-risk obstetric patients
Participation in departmental education, audit and research activities
There may also be opportunities to participate in Mater’s Flying O&G Service and gain valuable experience supporting women’s health services in rural settings.
About you
You are a motivated and patient-centred Medical Officer looking to build and strengthen your clinical experience across Obstetrics and Gynaecology within a leading tertiary maternity service.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
Current registration (or eligibility for registration) with AHPRA
Demonstrated interest in Women’s Health and Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
A commitment to ongoing professional development, education and continuous improvement
Interest in participating in research, audit and teaching activities
This role has been specifically designed as a career pathway opportunity for Medical Officers wanting to consolidate and expand their knowledge and clinical capability across the full scope of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
