About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced Senior Administration Officer to join our dynamic Emergency Department on a casual basis across a 24/7 roster.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly skilled administration team that supports one of Queensland's busiest Emergency Departments, providing essential frontline support to clinicians, patients and families.

The role provides senior administrative support with a strong focus on operational efficiency, patient experience and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team.

Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus casual loading, plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

Working across a 24/7 roster, you'll provide high-quality administrative support that helps the Emergency Department run safely and efficiently by:

  • Providing frontline reception and administrative support across key Emergency Department areas including triage, admissions and patient flow.
  • Accurately registering, admitting and discharging patients while ensuring patient information is processed efficiently and correctly.
  • Managing Medicare, private health insurance and billing information, including identifying Medicare-ineligible patients and liaising with Finance where required.
  • Supporting clinical teams by ensuring patients are clerked promptly and directed to the appropriate treatment areas.
  • Performing a range of senior administrative duties including patient payments, bookings, record management, data quality activities and health information administration.
  • Assisting with operational priorities and maintaining efficient workflows throughout the department.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to patients, visitors and multidisciplinary teams in a busy emergency setting.
  • Contributing to a collaborative team culture focused on delivering outstanding patient care.

About you

You're a confident and adaptable administrator who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and remains calm under pressure. You thrive on variety, deliver exceptional customer service and take pride in supporting both patients and clinical teams.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous administration experience, ideally within a hospital, emergency or healthcare environment.
  • Availability and flexibility to work across a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekends, evenings and overnight shifts as required.
  • Ability to respond to short-notice shift requests and pick up additional shifts as required to support the operational needs of a busy 24/7 Emergency Department.
  • Experience managing Medicare, private health insurance or medical billing processes will be highly regarded.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and experience using hospital or health information systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A patient-centred approach with a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
