About the role
Mater Health has an exciting position for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the team based at our South Brisbane campus in our acute wards. This will see you join a multifaceted service in an initial contract until 1st of August 2027 working full-time hours.
The Occupational Therapy department at Mater Health provides a broad range of public and private acute health services. The team encompasses both occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, who deliver these services across the lifespan of adults, children, and adolescents in both inpatient, outpatient and telehealth settings.
As a member of the Occupational Therapy team, you will provide patient centred, evidence based clinical care in our acute wards. Our HP3 Occupational Therapists occupy inpatient positions, servicing surgical, oncology, medical and neuro services.
Salary range: $41.06 - $60.35 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Independently undertake routine clinical practice within established clinical protocols to achieve patient focussed outcomes
- Apply increasing clinical judgement to more complex cases under clinical practice supervision
- Provide delegation, supervision, training and support to less experienced health practitioners, allied health assistants, students, support staff and volunteers in the delivery of clinical services
- Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within professional and multidisciplinary teams
- Identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve clinical services and patient outcomes
- Actively participate in translating research into practice
- Actively participate in professional and multidisciplinary teams, and liaise with patients, their families/carers and external agencies to facilitate patient centred care
- Participate in continuing professional development activities to further develop clinical practice and expertise
- Contribute to the learning and development of the team through clinical education and clinical supervision
About you
The successful applicant will possess:
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or Master of Occupational Therapy.
- Eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Eligibility to receive a Medicare provider number.
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skill in delivering assessment and intervention in the acute clinical area of occupational therapy.
- Demonstrated ability to apply occupational therapy skills to clinical services in the acute hospital environment.
- Flexibility to work across other acute hospital areas eg- medical, orthopaedics, oncology and private inpatient services.
- Demonstrated clinical practice and application of clinical judgement in the provision of high quality, evidence based, patient centred care.
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with profession and multi-disciplinary teams, patients, and carers to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Ability to identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional Occupational Therapy clinical services of a complex nature, manage a varying caseload from day to day and provide relevant clinical handover.
