About the role

Mater Private Hospital Mackay is seeking an experienced Nursing Manager to join our leadership team as our Bed and Staffing Manager. In this permanent full time role, you will work full time hours Monday - Friday. 

This key leadership position is responsible for the efficient and effective management of hospital bed utilisation, patient flow and workforce allocation across the facility. Working closely with the Director Clinical Services, Nurse Unit Managers, Department Managers and external stakeholders, you will play a critical role in ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time to deliver exceptional patient care.

As the Bed & Staffing Manager, you will influence operational decision-making, support workforce sustainability and contribute to the achievement of the hospital's strategic objectives, contractual obligations and service delivery outcomes.

Salary range: $75.40 - $81.09 plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the management of hospital bed utilisation and patient flow to optimise patient access and service delivery.
  • Coordinating staffing resources across the hospital to ensure safe, effective and efficient workforce deployment.
  • Collaborating with Nurse Unit Managers and department leaders to address staffing requirements and unexpected workforce shortages.
  • Developing and implementing workforce strategies that support recruitment, retention and succession planning.
  • Building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Mackay Hospital & Health Service.
  • Attending regular meetings with Mackay HHS to support contractual requirements and patient flow initiatives.
  • Monitoring staffing and operational costs while maintaining high standards of patient care and service delivery.
  • Supporting accreditation, quality improvement, patient safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and support to direct reports and workforce teams.
  • Contributing to strategic and operational planning activities that support the hospital's future growth and success.

About you

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • A minimum of five years' recent experience in a senior clinical leadership or management position.
  • Demonstrated experience in workforce planning, staffing coordination, patient flow management and operational leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams to achieve excellence in patient-centered care.
  • Strong strategic planning, workforce analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • A sound understanding of contemporary healthcare delivery models and workforce challenges.
  • High levels of digital literacy and confidence using workforce management systems and reporting tools.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Management, Health Management or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
