About the role
Mater Young Adult Health Centre is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse to join the Clarence Street ADAWS (Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service) program in this permanent, full-time role.
A structured 5-bed, 24-hour residential withdrawal service supporting young people aged 13 to 21 experiencing substance use-related harms. This role involves facilitating withdrawal plans and delivering holistic, strength-based care to young people, supporting their physical withdrawal and overall health needs including sexual and reproductive health, immunisations and follow-up care. The Clinical Nurse will contribute to integrated care plans, participate in group facilitation and support the ADAWS Program Coordinator to ensure a safe, supportive environment for young people from across Queensland.
Clarance Street ADAWS accepts referrals from across Queensland and forms part of the broader Mater Young Adult Health Centre, which offers a continuum of services including a longer-term residential program (Thread), specialist youth outreach, a drop-in Day Program, and parent psycho-education and support through individual, couple, and group interventions.
Salary range: $57.48 - $61.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will provide comprehensive clinical services to young people, including assessment, management, health promotion, and coordination of care within a multidisciplinary team.
- Assessing and managing young people with complex and simple health presentations, including intoxication and withdrawal syndromes
- Developing and implementing individual health and withdrawal management plans, including pharmacotherapy support
- Delivering brief interventions, education, and supported referrals to navigate the healthcare system
- Liaising with community health providers to facilitate follow-up care and immunisations
- Participating in multidisciplinary case reviews and contributing to team-based care at Clarence Street Service
- Providing secondary consultation and clinical advice to internal teams and external stakeholders
- Maintaining accurate medical records, data entry, and preparing clinical reports and discharge summaries
- Engaging in supervision, professional development, and attending team and network meetings
- Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with external service providers and stakeholders
- Contributing to continuous quality improvement, program evaluation, and ensuring compliance with policies and ethical standards
About you
You are a registered nurse with relevant experience and skills in supporting young people facing mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD)harms, and diverse backgrounds, demonstrating strong clinical knowledge, communication, and teamwork abilities.
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Postgraduate training in mental health and/or AOD highly desirable
- Understanding of health issues affecting young people, including mental health, AOD, and diverse groups such as LGBTIQA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and CALD communities
- Experience in clinical management of alcohol and other drug withdrawal
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, and clinical practice related to youth engagement and care
- Skilled in screening, assessment, care planning, and service consultation
- Familiarity with primary health and tertiary referral pathways
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage confidential information
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Current Queensland Open C Driver’s Licence and willingness to undergo a criminal history check
Additional requirements include participation in an on-call roster and flexibility to work across teams within the Mater Young Adult Health Centre and Clarence Street Service.
