Mater Private Hospital Townsville is seeking applications for a Dual Registered Nurse and Midwife (RN/RM) to join us at our new state of the art maternity hospital. We offer excellent flexibility, with opportunities ranging from Permanent Part-Time (0.6 FTE) through to casual employment. Choose the arrangement that best suits your lifestyle! To be considered for this opportunity, this role requires participation in a 24/7 rotating roster including morning, afternoon, and night shifts.
Mater Mothers' Private Townsville is part of Queensland's largest maternity service, providing exceptional, family-centred care from preconception through to pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Our purpose-built maternity unit offers 3 fully equipped birth suites, 12 private postnatal rooms with ensuites and a Special Care Nursery, ensuring the highest standard of care for mothers and babies. Our dedicated multidisciplinary team works closely with obstetricians to deliver personalised, compassionate care and support throughout every family's journey. With 24/7 access to expert clinical care, modern facilities, and innovative postnatal services, we are committed to creating safe, memorable and positive birth experiences for North Queensland families.
Salary range: $44.06 - $56.52 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will provide high-quality care across both surgical and maternity specialties within a supportive team nursing environment, caring for a mixed patient cohort each shift.
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing and midwifery care to achieve excellent patient outcomes.
- Perform thorough patient assessments to guide individualised care planning.
- Collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Advocate for patients’ rights, ensuring informed consent and respectful communication.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment by following safety and infection control policies.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and community services to ensure continuity of care.
- Commit to ongoing professional development, mentoring, and reflective practice.
- Integrate research into practice and support nursing/midwifery research activities.
- Communicate clearly and ethically with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Take responsibility for clinical decisions and actions within your scope of practice.
About you
The successful candidate will have a current, unrestricted registration with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board as a dual Registered Nurse and Midwife.
- Minimum of one year post grad working as a registered midwife
- Proven experience working effectively in the specialty area you are applying for.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, coordination, and time management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently within a busy, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Tertiary qualifications or ongoing study in the relevant clinical specialty are highly regarded but not essential
- Postgraduate qualification in the relevant specialty or actively working towards one is highly desirable.
