About the role
Mater Health is currently seeking a full-time Principal House Officer - Orthopaedics, to work across our Mater Hospital Campus’ (Mater Hospital Brisbane and Mater Hospital Springfield ). This role will be a 6 month program.
Salary range: $67.51 - $74.14 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Role specific expectations
Attendance to OPD and OT sessions as scheduled, including ward rounds
Maintenance of a safe clinical environment within the Orthopaedics Department.
Application of best practice principles in the care of patients requiring surgical attention.
Provision of a learning and nurturing environment for Interns, JHOs & SHOs
Participation in audit activities & quality management initiatives within the department
Clearly document all findings, results and orders for patients in the medical record and to adequately identify such entries.
Ensure that all results of investigations when available are presented to the Consultant at the earliest opportunity consistent with optimal patient care.
Have and maintain a good working knowledge of their patient's medical and social situation and to convey any significant information to the Consultant at the earliest opportunity, consistent with optimal patient care.
Enrol with appropriate organisations for specific training, attend necessary training programs, ensure assessment forms are completed by Supervisors of Training and liaise with the Supervisor of Training to meet any assessment requirements of Training in Surgery.
Maintaining a professional standard of conduct when dealing with patients and staff.
Maintain comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records for assigned patients.
Maintain a close association especially in relation to the care of assigned patients with nursing staff and liaise with Allied Health professionals as clinically appropriate, passing information to and from their consultant as required.
Provide after-hours on call when rostered on and sharing the rotations fairly between other PHOs/Registrars within the Orthopaedic Unit
Provide clinical learning and teaching for Interns, JHOs and SHOs.
Follow the policies and procedures developed for patient care by the Acute Surgical area.
Comply with human resource management issues including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination as applied in the working environment.
About you
Registration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with the Medical Board of Queensland.
In approved circumstances, eligibility for registration, with conditions, as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Queensland which must be produced at the commencement of employment.
