About the role

We are seeking a passionate Pharmacist Team Leader to fill this full-time, permanent position for our Inpatient Dispensaries which service both public and private hospitals at our South Brisbane campus.

Mater Health Services, South East Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals at South Brisbane, Springfield and Redland caring for over 500,000 patients each year.

Mater Pharmacy provides a clinical service to all inpatient areas and outpatient clinics, so this represents a fantastic opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of this community and to contribute to a strong, unified, inter-professional Clinical Services team at Mater.

Salary range: $77.20 - $80.55 per hour (HP5)  plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will lead the team working across our 2 inpatient dispensary areas at South Brisbane with some time ‘hands-on’ contributing to patient care as well as allocated time for managerial responsibilities.

You will work closely with hospital staff and collaborate with other Pharmacist Team Leaders to deliver a consistently high level of clinical pharmacy service to all areas of Mater Health.

You will be responsible for operationally and professionally managing a team of pharmacists and technicians to deliver a consistently high level of clinical pharmacy service, providing customers, patients, carers and other health professionals with support and information relating to medication and ensure the safe, effective and quality use of medicines to optimise patient outcomes.

Your time will be split between clinical service provision and managerial responsibilities which may include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership of and contribution to quality improvements including integration of pharmacy automation systems in the dispensary
  • Rostering and coordinating workload allocation
  • Coaching and mentoring to encourage accountability and support team members
  • Training and practice development of staff within the team
  • Providing regular feedback, assessment and development of staff performance to enable career progression and succession planning
  • Liaising with hospital leadership, ward managers and other key stakeholders to optimise service delivery and improve patient care
  • Providing responsive customer-focused service

Your leadership will ensure medication safety practices are upheld, support and information relating to medication is available and an accurate and efficient service is provided to all areas including inpatient wards and specialty clinics, infusion clinic, hospital in the home and procedural areas such as theatres, endoscopy and day units.

Our service to the hospitals is required 365 days per year so the role will include a share of evening, public holiday and weekend shifts as well as provision of an on-call service on a rostered basis.

As well as collaborating with other Pharmacy Team Leaders, you will have the opportunity to engage with all other Mater Pharmacy teams including Inventory Management, Clinical Trials, Medicines Information, Community Services and the on-site Production Unit as well as our teams at Mater Redland and Mater Springfield.

About you 

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy and APHRA registration to practice as a Pharmacist (without restrictions)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Pharmacist
  • The flexibility to work a share of all shifts including evenings, weekends, public holidays and on-call
  • a professional attitude, effective communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.

Other highly regarded characteristics are:

  • Prior demonstrated experience in ward-based clinical pharmacy
  • ANZCAP recognition at registrar or consultant level in a relevant specialty area
  • Previous experience in a leadership position
  • Previous experience in pharmacy robotic automation
