About the role 

Mater Private Hospital Mackay has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Assistant to join the team in a permanent, full-time basis. The successful applicant will provide building maintenance to Mater facilities on tasks that do not require a qualified tradesperson whilst ensuring customer satisfaction and quick resolution of jobs. 

Salary range: $33.87 - $35.13 per hourplus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing 

The purpose of this role is provide building maintenance support across Mater’s South East Queensland Campuses on tasks whilst ensuring customer satisfaction and quick resolution of jobs.

  • Ensure effective communication with Manager and Trade co-ordinator on a regular basis throughout the day on issues regarding daily work plan and work activities.
  • Participate in the planning and development of maintenance and renovation programs for the facilities
  • Participate in the process of providing quotations for work as required.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a manner providing the safety of patients, visitors and staff whilst ensuring all access and services are maintained where practical.
  • Comply with all authorised duties as directed by the Manager or his delegate.

Other responsibilities will include

  • Complete designated tasks in a timely manner and communicate effectively with the clients
  • Proactively repair & maintain building areas within the scope of this role and ensure that a job is logged in the service management system

Perform the following duties including but not limited to:

  • Replacement of lighting lamps and tubes
  • Repair or replacement of fixtures and fittings such as toilet seats, toilet roll holders, shower rails, privacy locks, shower heads (shower rose), noticeboards, glove, sharps and gel brackets
  • Test & tag of new patient appliances
  • Ceiling tile replacements
  • Minor furniture repairs
  • Minor carpet repairs including regluing
  • Minor repairs to walls and fittings
  • Nurse call handset replacement

About you 

 To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Broad/generalist exposure to a range of Maintenance / Handyman concepts (essential)
  • Electrical Test and Tag license (desirable)
  • Previous experience in a hospital or large commercial complex (desirable)
  • Current Drivers Licence (no restrictions)
  • Attention to detail
  • Proactively follow safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as self-motivated to work alone.

Essential

  • An understanding of Occupational, Health, Safety and Welfare Legislation and Regulations pertaining to engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in basic building maintenance.

Technical competencies

  • Well developed time management and organisation skills.
  • Understanding of or ability to acquire knowledge in workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity, and anti-discrimination practices and behaviours as applied in the working environment.
