We're seeking an Assistant Company Secretary to join our team in a newly created role supporting the Company Secretary, Board, Committees and Executive Leadership Team. The role will report to the Company Secretary and will be based at both Mater’s Newstead and South Brisbane offices.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in strengthening corporate governance across one of Australia's most respected healthcare organisations. You'll be at the centre of important decision-making processes, ensuring governance activities run seamlessly while building strong relationships with Board members, executives and key stakeholders.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As the Assistant Company Secretary, you’ll help deliver effective governance and compliance outcomes across Mater.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating Board and Committee meetings and governance calendars.
- Preparing agendas, Board papers, minutes and resolutions.
- Maintaining governance records, policies, registers and corporate documentation.
- Supporting compliance activities, governance reporting and regulatory lodgements, including preparing statutory forms and lodging documents with ASIC, ACNC and other regulatory authorities.
- Assisting with director onboarding, conflict of interest processes and governance initiatives.
- Building strong relationships with Board members, executives and key stakeholders.
- Driving continuous improvement across governance processes and systems.
About you
You’re a highly organised and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgement and manages competing priorities with discretion and professionalism.
- At least four years’ experience in a corporate secretarial or governance role.
- Tertiary qualifications in law, business or another relevant field, or a professional company secretarial certification. A Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance or equivalent will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated capability in delivering high-quality Board and Committee governance support.
- Sound knowledge of Australian corporate governance requirements and the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and confidential information.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Desirable
- Experience with Board platforms such as Diligent, Convene or BoardPro.
- Governance Institute of Australia studies or qualifications.
