Mater Research are looking for a Senior Medical Officer (Medical Oncology) / Research Group Leader to join the team! This is a five-year fixed-term role in a full-time capacity at 38 hours per week.

Mater Research is seeking an outstanding clinician-scientist to lead and grow our Women's Cancer and Medical Oncology Research Program. This is a unique opportunity to establish and expand a world-class translational oncology program that integrates laboratory discovery, clinical trials and specialist cancer care within one of Australia's leading hospital-based research environments. 

Based across the Mater South Brisbane Campus and Translational Research Institute (TRI), the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing precision oncology, increasing patient access to innovative therapies, and translating scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in outcomes for cancer patients.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing

This senior leadership position provides a rare opportunity to combine specialist medical oncology practice with clinical trial and biomedical research leadership.

You will have the platform to build a nationally recognised medical oncology research program focused on women's cancers while maintaining strong clinical engagement and research translation through clinical trial activity.

Key opportunities include:

• Leading the development of an internationally competitive women's cancer research program.
• Building investigator-initiated clinical trials that address important unmet clinical needs.
• Expanding patient access to novel therapies and clinical trials across the Mater network.
• Developing strong collaborations with clinicians, scientists, industry and research partners.
• Securing competitive research funding and supporting translational impact.
• Mentoring the next generation of clinician-scientists, higher degree students and emerging researchers.
• Contributing to Mater's growing reputation as a career destination for clinician-scientists, with established excellence in cancer care and research.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will be an accomplished medical oncologist with a strong track record of research leadership and passion for improving outcomes for women with cancer.

You will bring:

• A Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent specialist qualification.
• Specialist recognition in Medical Oncology and registration in Australia.
• A PhD or equivalent research doctorate.
• An established track record in translational cancer research.
• A strong publication record and evidence of research impact.
• Success in obtaining competitive grant funding and developing strategic collaborations.
• Experience in leading or contributing to clinical trials.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop research staff and students.
• A commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation and patient-centered care.
