About the role

Mater Pharmacy are looking for Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians to join our team on a permanent basis in a full-time or part-time capacity. We also have a vacancy for a Production Assistant who will be responsible for the timely manufacture and delivery of pharmaceutical products.

 

Mater Health Services, South-East Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals caring for over 500,000 patients each year across our South Brisbane, Springfield and Redland campuses.

 

Mater Pharmacy operates 3 community pharmacies at South Brisbane and provides a Clinical Hospital Pharmacy service to all hospital inpatient and outpatient areas. This represents a fantastic opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of Mater patients and to contribute to a strong, unified Clinical Services team.

 

Salary range:

$30.48 - $34.67 per hour (Operational Officer Level 2-3) plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

 

What you’ll be doing

You will work in a team with pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students and other support staff to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality of pharmacy service to optimise outcomes for all patients and customers of Mater. There is the opportunity to apply for a specific role as described below or be trained to work across multiple areas.

 

Pharmacy Technician or Assistant – Community Pharmacy

In this role you will be:

  • Supplying Medications to Specialty Clinics: You’ll assist in the medication supply for our outpatient clinics, including those catering to cystic fibrosis, dialysis, and eye clinic patients.
  • Liaising with Mater Mothers Hospital Patients: Supporting their maternity needs, including managing our unique breast pump hire service featuring the Medela Symphony Pump.
  • Assisting with our Community Vaccination Clinic: Our clinic services the public for their National Immunisation Program vaccination needs as-well-as servicing the pre-commencement and booster vaccination needs of our hospital staff, nurses and doctors.
  • Managing Dose Administration Aids: Ensuring our patients receive their medications accurately and on time by organising and managing dose administration aids.
  • Collaborating with Health Professionals: You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with our health professional colleagues, who also rely on our pharmacy for their personal medication needs.

This role will be based at our South Brisbane campus at our Raymond Terrace pharmacy (adjacent to Mater Public Hospital Brisbane) and/ or Vulture Street pharmacy (located within Mater Private Hospital Brisbane).

 

Pharmacy Technician – Clinical/Hospital Services

In this role, you will be providing medication supply service to all clinical areas which will include: 

  • Assembling and delivering dispensed medications
  • Monitoring and maintaining appropriate stock levels in the pharmacy and in clinical area imprest sites across the Mater campus
  • cold chain management of refrigerated and frozen medications
  • Answering phone calls from both internal and external customers and patients
  • Providing responsive customer-focused service

Other rotational roles in this team include:

  • PBS claim preparation and pharmacy billing
  • Cancer services clinical support including dispensing chemotherapy, assembling pre-meds, oral drugs and prescription management
  • Outpatient services clinical support including prescription management and scheduled supply for the Mater Infusion Centre and Mater at Home Hospital in the Home service.
  • There may also be the opportunity to work in Inventory Management by purchasing and receiving stock for our multiple retail stores and hospital services.

This role will be based predominantly at our South Brisbane campus with the opportunity to also work at Mater Springfield or Redland from time to time.

 

Production Assistant

In this role you will be responsible for the timely manufacture and delivery of a diverse range of high quality, specialised sterile (including cytotoxic) and non-sterile pharmaceutical products compounded for Mater Health and other Queensland institutions, utilising our purpose-built on-site production facility. This will include:

  • Preparing and manufacturing sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice and compliance with established policy and procedures for maintaining a safe, secure and efficient production service.
  • Maintaining required aseptic production competencies by successfully performing annual aseptic technique validation and completion of Chemo Check
  • Participating in quality assurance and quality improvement activities to ensure the highest standard of product quality for all clients
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Team Leader Production Services
  • Participating in the on-call roster to supply urgent medications on weekends and evenings when required

This facility is located at South Brisbane and provides a service to patients of Mater 24/7, 365 days of the year, so there is the need for some weekend and on-call shifts.

About you

To be considered for this role you will have:

 A professional attitude, effective communication skills and a high level of attention to detail

  • Passion for customer service and appreciation of the importance of delivering exceptional service every time
  • Professional, hardworking attitude and willing to work cooperatively and effectively with all team members
  • Previous relevant work experience is highly desirable
  • Completed or be willing to undertake Certificate II or III in Hospital/Community Pharmacy (or equivalent)
