About the role

Mercy Food Services Rockhampton is seeking enthusiastic, customer service-oriented Bakery Assistant to join our team in a permanent, part-time capacity (30hrs p/w). Work hours are weekdays during standard business hours—no weekend or night shifts required with the possibility to pick up an extra day when other staff are on leave.

As a Bakery Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of service are delivered to our customers and partners. This is a fast-paced, diverse role that requires strong teamwork skills and the ability to priorities tasks effectively.

Salary Range: $30.48 - $33.05 (OO level 2) per hour, plus superannuation, plus salary packaging access up to $15,900.

What you’ll be doing

As a Bakery Assistant you will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the day, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with general cleaning duties, including washing baking trays, utensils, and equipment
  • Ensuring baked goods are prepared and packaged according to recipe specifications
  • Managing inventory to ensure all bakery products are within their use-by dates
  • Correctly labelling and vacuum-sealing packaged products
  • Maintaining retention samples of baked goods for quality assurance
  • Ensuring dispatch trolleys are correctly labelled, filled, and not overloaded
  • Assisting with product placement and organization on food storage shelves
  • Supporting the Head Baker with the coordination of production schedules
  • Ensuring all bakery equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized after each use

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Understanding of food safety principles and basic hygiene
  • An ability to achieve goals and objectives with minimal supervision
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Certificate in Occupational Hygiene is desirable
  • Previous experience in a comparable position highly desirable
