About the role

Mater Refugee Health Service is seeking a Clinical Nurse (CN) to join the Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic on a permanent part time basis, working 32 hours per week.  

Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic Nurses work collaboratively with general practitioners and the broader practice team to offer comprehensive, trauma-informed general practice care for patients from a refugee background, including patients seeking asylum with unstable access to Medicare. This care encompasses the full breadth of general practice services and is inclusive of triage, immunisations, minor procedures, wound care, healthcare assessments, acute and chronic disease management, care coordination, patient advocacy and health and health system literacy. 

Salary range: $54.21 - $58.08 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Whilst displaying the highest level of clinical standards for the service you will be responsible for:

  • Contribute to ensuring the clinical environment meets relevant standards and legislative requirements (e.g. infection control, cold chain monitoring, managing stock, records management including recalls and reminders, occupational health and safety and accreditation processes). 
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to assist in the professional growth of less-experienced nursing team members.
  • Support the Nurse Unit Manager, Operations and Practice Manager and Clinical Director in activities designed to drive continuous quality improvement and assist with skill development. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About you

In order to be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
  • Immunisation Program Nurse qualification (or currently enrolled in course) and evidence of up to date continuing professional development in immunisation
  • Minimum 3 years’ clinical experience in a relevant specialist nursing field: refugee health/ general practice/ primary health care/ chronic disease
  • Previous experience in general practice highly regarded.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills including experience of working with peoples from diverse cultural backgrounds; engaging interpreters in a clinical setting, and the ability to liaise with a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally at various levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong listening, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamic political environment in which refugee health is embedded
  • Post-graduate studies (completed or currently enrolled) relevant to the role - highly desirable
