About the role 

Maters Finance team is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join the team until January 2025! Reporting directly to the Financial Accountant, the Assistant Accountant is a process-specific role responsible for assisting in the end-to-end financial reporting function for the assigned portfolio. 

Salary range: $85,879 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing

  • Completion of assigned bank reconciliations where applicable on a daily basis, ensuring any outstanding reconciling items are followed up on a timely basis
  • Assisting with the month end close process in line with the timetable
  • Raising GL journals as appropriate with sufficient supporting documentation to evidence entry reasons in line with processes, procedures and principles and checking for accuracy
  • Ensures transactions entered into GL follow the Group accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist with preparing monthly and quarterly balance sheet and P&L general ledger reconciliations and other information required for statutory reporting note disclosures for assigned entities in a timely and accurate manner
  • Appling skilled knowledge including the understanding of concepts, processes, procedures and principles, to follow up and resolving variances in reconciliations in a timely manner and escalating any discrepancies
  • Undertake intercompany accounting processes where applicable
  • Assisting with the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual statutory financial reports
  • Assist with the preparation of funding acquittals in accordance with the timetable
  • Support the external audit process
  • Complete all other tasks as requested 

About you

  • Relevant degree qualification (e.g. Economics, Business, Accounting) or experience deemed equivalent
  • Willing to commence a Professional Accounting Qualification (CA/CPA)
  • 0 - 2+ year’s experience in a financial accounting position
  • Health Specific or large/complex sector background highly regarded
  • Well developed communication skills
  • Possess high attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of people and support a culture of continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workloads
