About the role
The Occupational Therapy department at Mater Health has an exciting opportunity for an highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join their dynamic team on a fixed term basis until December 2025 based at South Brisbane campus.

The Occupational Therapy department at Mater Health provides public and private health services across a range of clinical specialties. These include  general medical, general surgical, orthopaedics, neurosciences , cancer care, lymphoedema, psychosocial/mental health and neonatology and paediatrics. The team encompasses both Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants and deliver services within inpatient, outpatient and telehealth settings.

Salary range: $41.87- $57.80 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing
As a member of the Occupational Therapy team, you will provide psychosocial patient centred, evidence based clinical care across the South Brisbane Mater Hospitals. The role will work across Mater Health clinical areas as caseload demands fluctuate but has a primary focus on providing psychosocial assessment and intervention to outpatients with cancer, medical and mental health conditions, in both individual and group formats

  • Independently undertake routine clinical practice within established clinical protocols to achieve patient focussed outcomes
  • Apply increasing clinical judgement to more complex cases under clinical practice supervision
  • Provide delegation, supervision, training and support to less experienced health practitioners, allied health assistants, students, support staff and volunteers in the delivery of clinical services
  • Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within professional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve clinical services and patient outcomes
  • Actively participate in translating research into practice
  • Actively participate in professional and multidisciplinary teams, and liaise with patients, their families/carers and external agencies to facilitate patient centred care

About you
To be successful within the role you will have the following:

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therpay or Masters of Occupational Therapy
  • Eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility to receive a Medicare provider number

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Mental health experience desirable
  • Training and or experience in the application of ACT, mindfulness, meditation, stress management, pain management, trauma, working in an acute hospital setting desirable
  • Knowledge and skills to provide core physical OT assessments is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated clinical practice and application of clinical judgement in the provision of high quality, evidence based, patient centred care
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ablity to work co-operatively with profession and multi-disciplinary teams, patients and carers to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability or ability to rapidly acquire skills to identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes
