Mater Health is currently seeking applications for Orderlies to join the team. These casual roles are based at our South Brisbane campus. These roles are to commence in January 2025.
Salary range: $31.27 - $33.77 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will transport patients between the wards and departments by walking escort, wheel chair, bed, trolley or hospital ambulance in accordance with the relevant Policy and Procedure.
- Assist the nursing staff in the delivery of quality patient care. Work with the allocated nurse when attending to turning, lifting, bathing and showering, Mobilisation of dependant patients,
- Ensure that patient handling is managed without harm to either the patient or the handlers by utilising correct patient handling techniques and appropriate aids.
- Assist Clinical staff in the management of potentially aggressive Patients. Carry out such duties according to the relevant Policy & Procedure.
- Be available to respond to emergencies such as Fire, Trauma, Code Red & Yellow et al including aggressive patient calls.
- To provide a support service, which includes patient transport, patient assistance, waste management, linen management and other services as listed in the departmental scope of works document.
- Removal of soiled linen, rubbish and sharps containers. Safely driving the internal Patient transport vehicle.
- Promote a safe and harmonious workplace for patients, visitors and staff. Respect patient‟s rights and the confidentiality of all matters relating to patients, their families and other staff. Replace medical gas cylinders as requested ensuring and according to the relevant Policy and procedure.
- Exchange beds when a patient is transferred to another Ward according to the relevant Policy and Procedure.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Responding quickly and positively to changing requirements whether within the department or outside in order to meet business demands
About you
You will have a current manual drivers licence and ideally a Certificate 3 in Health Support Services. You will also meet the below criteria:
- Clinical / Technical Competencies Basic understanding of, or ability to acquire knowledge of workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity, bullying and harassment and anti-discrimination legislations, practices and behaviours as applied in the working environment.
- Staff are required to display sound decision making skills, physical ability to perform the heavy role and ability to work unsupervised.
