About the role

Mater Mother’s Hospital is seeking a caring Clinical Midwife who is looking to make a difference to families experiencing perinatal loss. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Midwife looking to further their skills and knowledge in the role of a Bereavement Support Clinical Midwife on a part-time, fixed-term, working 22.48  hours per week.

The Mater Mother’s Bereavement Support Program was established in 2007 to provide comprehensive care to families who experience the death of a baby. The service has a focus on direct clinical care of bereaved families, clinical research and staff education.

The Bereavement Support Program is part of Parent Education and Support Services, and as such is supported by, and reports to the Midwifery Unit Manager Parent Education and Support.

Salary range: $54.45 - $58.30 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the current Clinical Midwife, and duties will include:

  • Staff support and mentoring in relation to perinatal loss
  • Coordinating care for bereaved families
  • Direct care and support to grieving families
  • Provision of ongoing bereavement support following discharge
  • Involvement in perinatal mortality audit processes, and
  • Participation in quality assurance activities and clinical research

About you

The successful applicant should possess:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife (no restrictions)
  • Considerable previous midwifery experience
  • An active interest in perinatal loss support
  • Advanced clinical competency and the ability to maintain the highest standards of midwifery practice
  • Effective communication and clinical problem-solving skills to maximise patient care within the multidisciplinary team
  • An ability to work autonomously and function as a member of a diverse health service delivery team
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of health care and midwifery practice, and to continuing professional development of self and others. 
  • Willingness to commit to and role model the Mater values
