Mater Research are looking for a Laboratory Operations Coordinator to join the team! This is a full-time, permanent role that will be based at our TRI and South Brisbane campuses. We are open to considering part-time employment at 0.8 FTE for the right individual.

Salary range: $ 36.10 - $40.43 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Laboratory Operations Coordinator undertakes a broad range of activities to facilitate the effective functioning of the Mater Research laboratories as part of the Research Operations team. The position specifically contributes to the functions led by the Lab and Safety Manager.
- Conduct regular audits of space usage, to inform planning of space allocation and refurbishment needs.
- Conduct regular audits of LN2, Walk in Freezer and cold storage.
- Maintain an equipment register.
- As directed, coordinate repairs and maintenance of physical spaces at both Aubigny Place and TRI campuses, logging jobs and following up with relevant teams as required.
- As directed, liaise with Mater Engineering, Mater Security, and Holy Cross Laundry and Cleaning.
- As directed, liaise with TRI Security, Building Services, and Scientific Services teams.
- Assist with site access for external contractors.
- Order supplies and equipment.
- Assist with on-boarding of new starters, including conducting laboratory and site inductions at Aubigny Place; ensuring all required trainings are completed; and assisting with back-end on-boarding of new starters at the TRI campus.
- Develop and distribute signage in the Aubigny Place and TRI campus areas as required.
- Help researchers with shipments, including provision of information about shipping processes and relevant import/export permits, and assistance with booking couriers and facilitating payments.
- Maintain oversight of archiving of Mater Research records in on- and off-site storage, identifying records due for destruction, and facilitating the secure destruction of records in line with relevant Mater and other policy and procedures.
About you
- Most importantly, you’re motivated and enthusiastic about contributing to our research institute as part of our operations team.
- You will have relevant experience providing laboratory based general support functions in a medical research, university, healthcare, or similar setting, which has given you broad knowledge of the requirements of working in a research laboratory environment.
- You’re highly organised with good time-management skills
- You have great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all sorts of different people to get the job done.
- You’re keen to work collaboratively in a small and dynamic team, happy to contribute across a broad range of activities while taking guidance from a number of different senior staff members.
- You’re good with technology and comfortable using standard software such as Microsoft Office suite, Teams, Adobe, and you’re able to quickly learn how to use new systems or programs.
