About the role
Mater Health is looking for a Service Support Officer to join the Catherine's House Team. This is a casual role working up to 12hr shifts, across a 7-day roster based at our South Brisbane campus.
Catherine’s House for Mother’s, Babies and Families (CHMBF) is a world-class, perinatal and infant mental health service. The integrated model of care provides inpatient and community services to public and private consumers. These services include a 10-bed inpatient mother-baby unit, private day program, and other outpatient services.
Salary range: 34.02 – 35.66 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The SSO will perform tasks as required in Catherine’s House and provide services including housekeeping and cleaning services; waste management services; delivery, collection, and cleaning of any required equipment; maintaining of inventory and food handling. The role includes, but is not limited to:
- Providing operational support to the clinical team to assist in providing an efficient and safe service to consumers and their infants
- Respecting consumer rights and the confidentially of all matters related to consumers and their families.
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, tidiness, and safety within the building whilst adhering to all health, hygiene, and safety guidelines
- Presenting self in a professional manner and adheres to the Mater behavioural standards including the Mater Mission and Values, as well as any other relevant professional and behavioural standards, translating these into everyday behaviour and actions, and holding self and others to account for these standards Performing duties as assigned by clinical staff for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Ensuring stock of cleaning items are checked and replenished.
- Removal of rubbish
- Participation in food preparation and delivery as directed by clinical staff.
- Adhering to all policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to role
- Assisting with client activities as required under the supervision of clinical staff
- Functioning as part of a team that ensures tasks and services are completed within required timeframes and at the highest standard
- Reporting any health and safety risks to the NUM during business hours or the Nurse in Charge of shift when outside of business hours
- Transportation of pathology specimens as required
- Responding quickly and positively to changing requirements whether within the department or outside to meet business demands
- Effectively and appropriately communicates with consumers, visitors, and other staff during all interactions and in doing so, contributes to a safe and harmonious environment for all
- Demonstrating an ability to work co-operatively with other team members and to take direction and guidance from others
- Participating in and successfully completing all training requirements relevant to the position, including Mater Health Services mandatory training

- The successful candidate will be required to obtain a criminal history check.
- This position requires the incumbent to operate an organisation vehicle and an appropriate licence to operate this vehicle is required, Queensland C Class driver’s licence.
