Mater Mother’s Hospitals is looking for a Director of Clinical Services to join the team. This permanent, full-time role is based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing 

The Director of Clinical Services (DCS) has responsibility for the clinical leadership and management of Mater Mothers’ Hospitals (MMHs), Australia’s largest provider of maternity and women’s health services. The DCS is accountable for Mater’s maternity, neonatal and gynaecology services, and aligning the strategic plans and goals of MMHs to Mater’s strategic plan. The role ensures optimal performance in service delivery through contemporary approaches to healthcare provision and is pivotal in driving excellence in clinical care and the continued growth of Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane.  

The DCS will support the overall delivery of care and services, through safe, highly reliable care to achieve optimal clinical outcomes and an exceptional patient centred experience. This role, in conjunction with the MMHs General Manager (GM) contributes to strengthening the reputation and brand of Mater, through its healthcare services in the community, and always, achieves efficient and sustainable financial performance. 

The DCS works with the hospital’s clinical, financial and patient safety leaders to achieve exceptional clinical and corporate governance, operational performance, healthcare outcomes and a culture which acknowledges excellence in professional standards, behaviour and accountability.  

This role’s internal and external relationships will also contribute to fostering an environment where research and evidence are translated through education into innovative consumer-centric approaches to care delivery, and exemplary clinical practice that drives the best possible patient outcomes.

About you 

You will have relevant registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and at least 5 years post-basic or post-graduate nursing and/or midwifery experience and minimum 1 years’ experience as Nurse/Midwifery Unit Manager or Higher. You will also meet the below criteria:

  • Proven previous experience managing a large, complex health provision organisation.
  • Proven experience managing a large expense budget, with demonstrated achievement of related performance and accountability outcomes.
  • Significant experience in leading:
    • A large integrated, multidisciplinary workforce comprising of both clinical and non-clinical team members; and
    • both private and public acute services
  • Master’s degree in business, finance, healthcare management or human behaviour discipline or working towards (highly desirable)
  • Deep understanding of Mater’s identity and a strong commitment to lead and role model the Mater Mission, Vision and Values
  • Effective understanding of Australia’s public and private health system, and the opportunities and challenges facing it - domestically and globally
  • Strong skills as a contemporary leader, and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain high performing, cohesive and collaborative teams where team members are supported to maximise their potential
  • Successful history in working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians, to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and supporting a whole of service patient safety and quality agenda, achieving hospital accreditation
  • Demonstrated experience in leading major change and achieving cultural alignment in a healthcare environment
  • Highly developed communication (written and oral), interpersonal, strategic planning, negotiation, risk management, data and research interpretation skills
  • Skills and demonstrated experience in facilitating and achieving patient access and flow for a whole of service, leading to safe quality outcomes and positive consumer experience
  • Skills, experience and accreditation in process and service improvement methodologies, such as Lean Thinking and Six Sigma
