About the role

The Mater Mothers’ Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Fellow in Obstetric Medicine to join our team in 2025.  We are offering a maximum term contract, commencing Monday 4th August (negotiable) and concluding on Sunday 1st February 2026 for a SOMANZ accredited fellowship in Obstetric Medicine.

Our world-class maternity facility is the largest provider of Obstetric Services in Australia, with more than 10,000 births annually in a co-located public and private setting.  As the major tertiary referral centre for the State of Queensland, the Mater Obstetric Medicine Department provides over two hundred episodes of outpatient care per week, a comprehensive inpatient consultative service and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, high risk maternity care planning.   Staffed by eight Consultants, two Fellows, a house officer, 4 credentialled diabetes educator/ midwives, a research project officer, and administrative team, the department has a very strong working relationship with obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine.

The Department of Obstetric Medicine Mater Mothers’ Hospital has excellent research credentials with a high output of quality research projects and publications and opportunity for early carer researcher participation.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In the role as Obstetric Medicine Fellow will see you contribute to a high quality, multidisciplinary team-based clinical service appropriate to the level of training and experience.  You will work collaboratively with health professionals both within the service and outside the organisation to achieve the highest levels of care to our patients, whilst undertaking SOMANZ accredited Obstetric Medicine training. Honorary University of Queensland academic status is available upon application and there are multiple research and education opportunities.

About you

To be considered for this role you must have or be:

  • FRACP in any sub-specialty
  • current registration with/or eligible for registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner
  • willing to participate in research
  • clinical skills and abilities consistent with the level of training and experience in Medicine
  • able to communicate effectively with patients and their families, multidisciplinary staff and be able to work effectively in a team environment
  • able to maintain patient confidentiality and abide by local hospital and external privacy rules and legislation
  • caring, kind and empathic to patients and staff alike

Mandatory qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent level medical qualification that is recognised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  • Current registration with / or eligible for registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner
  • FRACP
  • Applicants must provide documentary evidence of compliance before they can be appointed, inclusive of certified copies of qualifications held, current registration certificates and evidence of relevant immunisations
