Mater Health is looking for a Director of Pathology to join the team. Reporting to the General Manager – Pathology for operational aspects and to the Mater Chief Medical Officer for medical, professional and clinical governance. This full-time role is based at our South Brisbane campus.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As the Designated Person for Mater Pathology, the Director has responsibility for the clinical governance of the laboratory and provides oversight and management of staff and processes to ensure ethical patient care and the provision of accurate and timely test results. (NPAAC Requirements for supervision in the clinical governance of medical pathology laboratories Seventh Edition, 2023).
The Director of Pathology will continue to operate in a clinical capacity for 70% of the role. The role of pathologist will be within the discipline of Chemical, Anatomical or General Pathology. The Director will also participate as a Clinical Leader within Mater Group and report to the Chief Medical Officer as required for clinical governance matters.
This role will also play a pivotal leadership role across Mater Pathology with all Mater Pathologists reporting to this role.
About you
You will have AHPRA registration appropriate for recognition as an Approved Pathology Practitioner as determined by Minister for Health and Ageing (operative from 1st March 2008). These criteria are met by being recognised as a specialist pathologist by Medicare Australia. You will also meet the below criteria:
- Desirable: further qualification in research or management; experience in a leadership role in a pathology discipline.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, customers and service partners to improve service and support business growth..
- Ability to lead, influence, motivate and manage a diverse professional group to achieve clinical and commercial outcomes.
- Knowledge of the Medical Benefits Schedule and practicalities of billing.
- Ability to collaboratively review systems and processes to improve customer-focussed service.
- Must be willing and able to allow use of Medicare provider number for billing of private pathology services.
