About the Role:

Mater Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist to join the Stat Laboratory. This is a permanent full-time role working 38 hours a week, where you may be required to work across all shifts including evenings and over nights. This role is currently primarily based at the Stat Lab in Chermside. In this role you may occasionally be required to work at the small Stat Lab currently at Springfield. With the current Springfield Hospital expansion and you will play a role in the recruitment and development of this small team into a medium sized stat Lab.

As a Laboratory Scientist at Mater Pathology, your role involves managing the daily workflow in our Stat Laboratories to ensure the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services. You will be responsible for overseeing chemical pathology, haematology, transfusion medicine, and microbiology procedures, working independently during after-hours and weekend shifts. Collaboration with clinical referrers is essential to provide timely and accurate results for patients. Your leadership in problem-solving, decision-making, and supervision of clinicians will contribute to operational excellence and the continuous improvement of service delivery. Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 ( HP4) per hour plus superannuation access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Ensure operational excellence using contemporary technology and best practice standards
  • Provide complete and reliable reports, authorise results, and notify critical findings
  • Communicate effectively with clinical referrers and attend onsite meetings as required
  • Utilise problem-solving skills and innovative solutions in decision-making processes
  • Monitor test turnaround times, follow up on overdue results, and extract data for analysis purposes
  • Supervise HP3 and HP2 level clinicians, providing clinical practice guidance and performance management

About You:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification
  • Strong scientific background and operational experience in multidisciplinary testing
  • Leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to quality assurance
  • Previous experience in team management and resource optimization
  • Passion for delivering exceptional laboratory services and improving patient outcomes
