About the role
Mater Mother’s Hospital is Australia’s largest maternity service, and we are excited to be able to offer several exceptional and talented Principal House Officers the opportunity to spend 12-months working in our world- class organisation across both our South Brisbane and Springfield sites.
Our world-class tertiary maternity facility is located in Brisbane’s South Bank precinct and is the largest facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The Mater Mother’s Hospitals manage more than 10,000 births and neonatal admissions each year, including at least 100 neonatal retrievals and 150 back transfers. We provide antenatal, perinatal and postnatal services, and specialise in caring for severe complications in pregnancy with a sub-specialty Maternal-Fetal-Medicine service. The Mater provides comprehensive general gynaecological services, with sub-specialty areas of practice including gynaecology, gynaecological oncology, endoscopic surgery, women’s imaging and perinatal pathology. The unit has a dynamic education, audit and research program and the successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in these activities.
In an exciting new chapter Mater Springfield will be opening its obstetric unit in early 2026. We are also recruiting PHOs to work in this unit. Birthing numbers are expected to be approximately 1600 per annum.
Mater Is offering a number of PHO roles, some based at South Brisbane, some based at Mater Springfield with a few will have the opportunity to rotate across both sites. Short listed candidates will have the opportunity to indicate their preference.
Salary range: $129,949 - $142,727 per annum plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
This role is ideal for a Medical Officer who would like more experience in Women’s Health prior to embarking in General Practice, Rural Generalist Obstetrics or Specialist O&G training. This position includes exposure to all facets of obstetrics and gynaecology, including Birth Suite, Early Pregnancy and Pregnancy Assessment Units, Antenatal Clinic, Obstetric Medicine, General Gynaecology, Advanced Laparoscopy and Adolescent Gynaecology and has been specifically created as a career-path for those who are interested in consolidating and expanding their knowledge and clinical skills in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
About you
You will have a Medical Degree(s): MBBS, MD or equivalent and be eligible for at least a provisional registration with AHPRA. Ideally you will also meet the below criteria:
- Experience as resident in the above specialties acceptable.
