Mater Health is looking for an Employment Support Worker to join the Clarence Street Team. This maximum-term, full-time role (until May 2026) will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary range: $37.48 - $50.54 (HP2) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

In this role you will be providing support to young people participating in the organisations vocational training program PIVOT.  As part of this role you will support young people experiencing substance use concerns to navigate some the barriers that have impacted the young person in participating in vocational training.  This role will support young people to complete at Certificate II in Hospitality.   You will support young people with   Individual Placement support and assist young people to work towards their employment goals.  This role will also require the successful applicant to provide brief AOD interventions using  harm reduction and strength based interventions. 

  • Capacity to support the vocational training program particularly in the area of hospitality
  • Work collaboratively with other services in the youth and employment sector
  • Capacity to complete a work base vocational assessment with young people
  • Deliver youth drug and alcohol interventions which may include intake assessments, brief interventions, case work including coordinating individual support planning for young people
  • Provide individual counselling, advocacy and support to young people participating in the day program. Ensuring that interventions are consistent with a framework of harm reduction, relapse prevention and strength-based approaches.
  • Ensure clinical practice reflects the developmental needs of young people.
  • Capacity to successfully manage complex issues and clients whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Provide input into the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the multidisciplinary team particularly in the area of the Are 40 program.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary treatment modalities for young people impacted by alcohol and other drugs
  • Establish employer contacts within the community aimed at providing work experience for young people  and potential employment options.
  • Capacity to write reports as required by funding bodies and complete reporting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Complete case notes and reports to document work undertaken to facilitate internal team communication, and to enhance Clarence Street’s collaboration with those agencies providing services to Clarence Street clients.
  • Developed communication and interpersonal skills with a  proven ability and experience in establishing and developing key relationships with stakeholders
  • Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team delivering safe care in a drop-in space
  • Support the Day Program Coordinator with the daily running of the day program.

 Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a minimum Associate  Diploma or Advanced Diploma  qualification preferably in Alcohol and Other Drugs / Youth Work/Community Services.

  • Evidence of working towards a qualification in alcohol and other drugs or a human services qualification highly desirable
  • Previous experience in working in the hospitality industry.
