About the role
Mater Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane is seeking an Advanced Trainee, Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine to join the team on a full time, maximum term basis for 12 months commencing in February 2026.
This is a unique opportunity to work in one of Australia’s leading Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine centres based in an Adult Hospital. Working in adolescent and young adult medicine is deeply rewarding because it allows you to support young people during a pivotal stage of growth, identity formation, and transition. You have the opportunity to build trusting, long-term relationships and empower patients to take charge of their health, often guiding them through complex medical, psychological, and social challenges. The work is dynamic and meaningful, offering the chance to make a lasting impact on patients’ lives as they move toward adulthood with greater confidence and resilience. There are also opportunities to develop research, health service evaluation and education and training skills, supported by Mater’s Research Institute.
Salary range: $65.53 -$75.77 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The primary duties are to provide health assessments and care to young people with substance use concerns in a therapeutic residential facility as well as community follow-up. The trainee will also provide care to adolescents and young adults with chronic health conditions in ambulatory clinics and inpatient settings. The position is supervised by an Adolescent and Young Adult Physician and is an accredited AYA training position (Core A) with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). The trainee will work as part of multidisciplinary teams with the MYAHCB and be expected to participate in teaching, research and mentoring of junior colleagues
- Daily management of AYA patients admitted to the MAYHC
- Ambulatory management of young people with chronic and complex health issues
- Lead the development and implementation of a AYA regional training program
- Participate in MYAHC research and lead their own research project
About you
- Completion of RACP basic physician training (paediatrics or adults), including written and clinical exams
- Current medical registration
- Appointment or completion of appropriate advanced training
